The honest answer is that it depends on the server and on the person being served. Here is what we do: attempts at different times of day and on different days of the week, each one logged with the date, the time and the address. If service cannot be completed, you get the attempt log and a straight explanation of why, rather than silence and an invoice.

South Carolina Rule of Civil Procedure 4(c) allows any person who is not a party to the case and is at least eighteen years old to serve process.
