Yes. In South Carolina, a notary public may solemnize a marriage (S.C. Code §20-1-20; South Carolina Secretary of State Notary Public Manual, p. 8). The ceremony must take place inside South Carolina. The state has no separate officiant registration. My notary commission is what allows me to perform the ceremony.

Couples who wanted a short, simple ceremony often went to the courthouse. Charleston County probate court no longer performs courthouse ceremonies, so that option has closed for couples in Charleston County. I offer the same short, legally valid ceremony at a place and time you choose.
